TICKETS for York City's friendly at Whitby Town have gone on sale - with away fans welcome at the Turnbull Ground.

The Minstermen travel to the Yorkshire coast for a 3pm kick off on Saturday, July 10. It is City's first game of preparations ahead of the 2021/22 National League North season.

Adult tickets cost £6, concessions cost £3 and under-16s go in free.

Tickets will not be available to buy on the gate.

Under coronavirus restrictions, attendances are capped at 50 per cent of Whitby's 2,800-capacity ground, but the host club are playing it safe this year and keeping numbers limited to 1,000.

A crowd of any size will make a dramatic difference to that which the sides experienced in last year's pre-season friendly.

As a result of pandemic-enforced disruption, the 2020 edition of this warm-up fixture kicked off on September 12 in front of empty stands.

Though a new-look side last year, City were nonetheless underwhelming against the Northern Premier League premier division outfit and sunk to a 2-0 defeat, with Seasiders fan favourite Adam Gell grabbing both goals.

Minstermen boss Steve Watson has been able to retain a more substantial core ahead of this year's meeting, and has added three strikers in the off-season.

Following on from loan spells over the past two seasons, Watson has secured highly-rated attackers Kurt Willoughby and Jason Gilchrist on permanent deals ahead of next season.

Excitingly, the trip to Whitby also holds the promise that it could be fans' first opportunity to see Clayton Donaldson back in a City shirt following his return to the club after 14 years away.
