THERE were no real surprises in Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League premier division as the top six all took maximum points off sides in the bottom half.

League leaders Sessay beat basement side Hull Zingari by eight wickets, with Matthew Till (101no) scoring a century and Mark Wilkie (63) a half-century as the opening pair shared a stand of 162 to chase down the hosts' 221-5.

Goole Town were bowled out for under a hundred for the third week in a row, this time Folkton & Flixton pair Max Harland (5-20) and Elliot Hatton (3-27) doing most of the damage.

Matthew Cooper (24) top scored for the hosts in an otherwise disappointing batting performance.

Skipper Tom Norman (49) narrowly missed out on a half-century as his side chasing down their target inside 18 overs to make it three wins from their last four matches and stay second 27 points behind the Sessay.

York were made to work hardest for their points before eventually overcoming Welton at Clifton Park thanks to a match-winning unbroken eighth-wicket partnership of 51 between Iain Jarvis (74 not out) and Sam Backhouse (32).

Chasing a target of 192, the home side were in trouble early on as Tom Brown (3-47) picked up the first three wickets leaving them on 35-3 when Jarvis arrived at the crease.

Luke Hills (61) and James Windeatt (70) provided most of the visitors’ total, the latter with his third half-century of the season before becoming one of three expensive wickets for Ted Patmore (3-77). By contrast, Tom Backhouse’s efforts were much more miserly, his 4-12 off 11 overs including Hills.

Malton & Old Malton recorded their first win on the road, beating Sheriff Hutton Bridge by eight wickets after the hosts collapsed from 82-2 to 118 all out while setting a target.

Things had been going well with opener David Coverdale on 46 but after he was dismissed by Thomas Bumby (3-26) the innings quickly fell apart, Dean Coote finishing with 3-1, seven of his eight overs ending as maidens.

Visiting openers Michael Linsley (40) and Shaun Harland (28) put on a stand worth more than half the required total. Despite both falling to David Hull (2-13), the result was by then a formality.

Ben Hatfield (97no) put on a stand of 102 alongside Gregory Whyley (43) in a five-wicket victory against Pickering at Norwood Park, despite Kieran Bowes (5-39) taking all five wickets in the home team’s innings.

They chased down 157 after Bowes had having top scored with 37 and David Greenlay made 30.

Whitkirk’s Simon Webb (105no) scored an unbeaten century to lead his side to victory at Studley Royal.

Steve Walmsley score a run-a-ball 77 not out for the home side, whose batters otherwise - despite seven double-figure scores - failed to reach 20.
