YORK City Knights have brought in half-back Jamie Ellis from Leigh Centurions on a two-week loan deal, which will then be reviewed week by week.

Ellis is approaching 200 career appearances and the 31-year-old played a key role in Hull Kingston Rovers’ Championship promotion-winning campaign in 2017.

As well as Leigh, Ellis has represented four other Super League clubs in a career which started with St Helens in 2008 before spells with Hull FC, Castleford Tigers and Huddersfield Giants in the top flight. The half-back had a second spell with Castleford between 2018 and 2019 prior to rejoining Hull KR and then Leigh.

Ellis joins at a time when the Knights are without Morgan Smith, who is continuing his recovery from his pre-season ACL injury, and Brendan O’Hagan who has been ruled out after picking up an injury against Halifax Panthers last Sunday.

On Ellis’ signing, Ford said: “I’m really pleased to be in a position to bring a player of Jamie’s experience and ability to the club. I’m really looking forward to working with him and seeing the impact he will have on our team.

Ellis himself said: “I’m looking forward to hooking up with Fordy and the club. It is looking great at the moment with the stadium, players and getting to the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final.

“Personally, I’m looking forward to getting some game time, to get back to my best and get some confidence.”

Ellis will be sponsored by Trade Cars 4 U and is in line to make his Knights debut this weekend against Batley Bulldogs, who travel to the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday (3pm).
