KURT WILLOUGHBY is back at York City.

The 23-year-old striker has become manager Steve Watson's first signing of the summer ahead of the upcoming 2021/22 National League North campaign.

Willoughby enjoyed a fruitful month-long loan spell with City during the 2019/20 campaign, when he netted three goals in four appearances before being recalled by parent club AFC Fylde.

He was released by the Coasters in the middle of last month, turning heads among fans and attracting the attention of Watson, who has made contact a few times over signing the England 'C' international.

Willoughby said: “I’m buzzing to finally get it done and be here, be in the new stadium and having a look around the place, it’s great to be back.

“I only came here for a month but straight away I felt loved and appreciated and that shows on the pitch.

“When you speak to the gaffer, he is keen on promotion and so am I – I want to win things and obviously, being a striker, I want to score as many goals as I can so I have targets I want to reach by certain points in the season. Hopefully I reach them, we do well as a team and reach our goals.”

Willoughby joins the 11 players currently contracted to the club.

Negotiations over a new contract for Michael Woods continue.
