YORK City Ladies were knocked out of the Subsidiary Cup at the semi-finals stage following an eight-goal thriller with Alnwick Town.

At Alnwick's St James's Park, the Minsterbelles netted late in a 4-4 draw before going out 4-2 on penalties in the North East Regional Women's League competition.

Chloe Young got Alnwick off to a good start, converting a fourth-minute penalty after Michelle Stewart was brought down in the box.

Stewart doubled the hosts' advantage seven minutes later but York pulled one back going into half-time.

Nikki Brown drew City level on the hour with a well-taken goal.

In a frantic final 10 minutes, York took the lead in the 82nd minute only for Alnwick to level matters less than 60 seconds later through former England Under-19 Sophie Williams.

Alnwick regained the lead from a contested Williams free kick - before Rebecca Fevers netted the visitors' fourth in injury time.

Goalkeeper Katy Stark proved Alnwick's heroine on the night with two saves to see the North East outfit through to the final against Wallsend.
