YORK City will play host to Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly.

The Minstermen will welcome the Magpies to the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday, July 18 for a 2pm kick off.

A full pre-season schedule and ticketing information will be released shortly, the club says.

By the time this fixture is played, it will be five months since City last set foot on the Community Stadium turf.

It was February 16 when York played AFC Fylde, just days before the National League North season was declared null and void.

City manager Steve Watson's former side Newcastle, meanwhile, can now breathe a sigh of relief after securing Premier League survival for another season.

York hosted Newcastle at Bootham Crescent for a friendly in 2015, when the Minstermen triumphed 2-1 thanks to two early goals, then again in 2016 when Aidan Connolly scored in a 1-1 draw.
