WIGGINTON Grasshoppers suffered an agonising penalty shoot-out defeat to Yarm & Eaglesclliffe in the semi-final of the North Riding County FA Saturday Cup.

Goalkeeper Jordan Holt so very nearly became a remarkable cup hero as he scored a injury-time brace to level the tie at 2-2 and send it to penalties, where he saved one and scored one.

His side went out after a 5-4 defeat on spot kicks.

After starting much the brighter, Wiggy found themselves a goal behind just before half-time when a Yarm player nodded a corner home.

Shortly after the restart, it was two to Yarm when a clearance from Hoppers keeper Jordan Holt cannoned into a Yarm striker and flew back into the empty net behind.

Despite creating chances late in the game, Wiggy could not break down a resolute Yarm defence, but a remarkable turn of events saw Holt leave his goal to head home from corners in the 91st and 93rd minutes and force the game to spot kicks.

Holt's run of good fortune continued briefly as he saved a spot kick and converted his own penalty within the opening five, only to see his side knocked out in the first round of sudden death kicks.
