YORK clubs are set to join in this weekend's planned social media boycott which aims to tackle online abuse and discrimination.
The Press understands that both York City and York City Knights will take part in the boycott, which will begin from 3pm tomorrow until 11.59pm on Monday.
A host of sports organisations have declared their intention to take part with the major bodies from football, cricket, rugby union, rugby league and cycling among involved.
The campaign comes in response to the growing online abuse received by high-profile footballers, most prominently including Manchester United pair Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba.
Dr Rimla Akhtar MBE, the Chair of the RFL Inclusion and Advisory Board said:“Rugby league is committed to fighting racism and discrimination through its Tackle It action plan and supporting the many people involved in making change happen.
" I am proud to see rugby league joining the sporting world in sending out a very clear message that online hate and abuse will not be tolerated. I encourage all of the Rugby League community to join us for this weekend’s social media boycott.”
