WIGGINTON Grasshoppers are through to the semi-finals of the York & District FA Senior Cup after beating rivals Old Malton St Mary’s 2-1.
After a fairly even first period, Old Malton had a couple of decent chances to take the lead, the better of which saw Noah Jackson blaze wide.
But Wiggy began to assert themselves at the clock ticked towards half-time.
Josh Luckhurst curled Hoppers into the lead just before the break and Neale Holmes doubled Wiggy’s advantage shortly after the restart.
Malton played their way back into contention with seven minutes to go via an excellent drive from Jack Simpson into the bottom corner but it was too little, too late.
Strensall squeezed past Hemingbrough at New Earswick in a fascinating encounter, which home side Strensall led 4-2 with two minutes left on the clock.
But plucky Boro scored twice in stoppage time to take the game to penalties - where luck deserted them and saw Strensall advance to the semi-finals.
