THE Rugby Football League (RFL) have confirmed that the Summer Bash will not take place in 2021.

The governing body have said they expect crowds to be socially distanced, and therefore limited, by the summer, and therefore will not run the showpiece event.

The Betfred Champion-ship’s weekend spectacle in Blackpool was also forced to be cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The RFL also stated that the Championship and League 1 would follow suit with the 2020 Super League in settling league positions based upon points percentage.

“This is to recognise the likelihood of fixtures being affected by Covid-19, with postponements permitted if a team loses seven or more players for Covid-related reasons,” they explained.

“The first option will be for matches to be rearranged on a free date - but if this is not possible, the fixture will be cancelled.”

Golden Point has been suspended for 2021, but it is hoped to return next year.
