MALTON & Norton golfer David Hague featured in his first European Tour event in the United Arab Emirates last week.

Featuring in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, only the second event of this year’s European Tour, Hague shot five-over-par from his two rounds, meaning that he missed the cut.

Hague looked within contention of making it through to the weekend after making a strong start to his second round, which finished on 74.

Having birdied the par three on 11, the 24-year-old was two-under-par for the day through 13.

But a double bogey on 14, and back-to-back bogey on 15 and 16 dashed his hopes of making the cut.

A tricky back nine in Hague’s first round of 75 also proved to be his undoing on Thursday.

Hague was level par through the front nine before consecutive bogeys on 10 and 11 and then on 15.

The Malton & Norton talent will have taken plenty of experience from his first start on a European Tour event which featured a strong field including Tommy Fleetwood, Lee Westwood and Justin Rose.

At five-over, Hague placed level with former US Open winner Graeme McDowell and ahead of four-time major champion Ernie Els and Henrik Stenson, who won the 2016 Open.
