YORK City's Vanarama National League North season has been suspended for two weeks amid the row over a lack of financial support.
Two clubs in the National League South - Concord Rangers and Slough Town - had earlier this week stated their intention not to play this weekend, throwing into question the sporting integrity of the Step 2 divisions.
Many clubs have reacted angrily after it was revealed that the £11 Winter Survival Package was only available to clubs through loans rather than grants.
The National League have now taken the decision to suspend the season for a fortnight.
A statement by the National League Board read: "Following the review of the feedback from clubs in connection the recent clubs meeting, a Board meeting this morning decided to halt the participation in the North/South divisions for a two-week period, effective immediately."
As a result, five of York's matches - against AFC Telford, Hereford, Curzon Ashton, Bradford (Park Avenue) and Alfreton Town - have been postponed.
