SELBY Town's league season has been suspended until January amid the stricter tier system which comes into effect tomorrow.

The Toolstation Northern Counties East League management board held an emergency meeting on Monday on whether to restart the season as the country's moves out of its second national lockdown.

Given that 37 of the league's 40 teams have been placed in Tier 3, meaning that those clubs will not be allowed to let supporters into their grounds, the decision has been made to put the league season on hold.

80 per cent of the league's clubs stated that they do not wish to play matches behind closed doors.

"The NCEL will await the outcome of the second scheduled tier review on Wednesday 30th December, 2020, before considering whether matches can feasibly restart in January," the league said.
