THE Football Association has furnished a comprehensive update on the tiers and competitions that will not go ahead under the impending new lockdown.

From tomorrow, new nationwide restrictions will come into force for four weeks to tackle rising numbers of coronavirus cases.

Under these restrictions, ‘elite’ sport will be allowed to continue but - subject to a Parliamentary vote today - swathes of amateur and grassroots sport is set to be suspended.

The FA statement confirms that York City’s National League North campaign will be able to continue, though the FA Trophy is expected to be put on hold. York’s first engagement in the Trophy was meant to be the second round proper on Saturday, December 5, three days before the rearranged Kettering Town game.

Between tomorrow and Wednesday, December 2, all fixtures and training for Steps 3 to 6, regional National League System feeder leagues, and indoor and outdoor youth and adult grassroots football will be suspended.

School football can continue.

In the women’s game, all fixtures and training for Tiers 3 to 7 of the Women’s Football Pyramid, the Barclays FA WSL Academy League, and FA Girls Regional Talent Clubs will be put on hold.

York City Ladies compete in the North East Regional Women’s Football League premier division, the fifth tier of women’s football.

An FA statement added: “Our aim is to ensure that the 2020/21 season is completed at these levels and will liaise with the relevant leagues to provide support and establish appropriate options to do so if required.”

Step 4 side Pickering Town hoped to squeeze in one more Northern Premier League north/west division fixture last night when they were due to host Pontefract Collieries.

Divisional rivals Tadcaster Albion - whose manager Paul Quinn sent an impassioned letter to the Government advocating for grassroots sport to continue - have a flooded pitch to contest with as well.

Step 6 outfit Selby Town have not played since October 17, with three fixtures being postponed as a result of coronavirus precautions.
