CITY of York I Men’s were unable to emerge victorious from their first home game of the season after falling to a 3-2 defeat by Stockton.

Follow last week’s defeat, York came out looking to make a statement. They started slowly but gradually got themselves into third gear and applied pressure on Stockton’s goalkeeper.

York’s defence began to cut out Stockton’s aerial passes but a lack of concentration led to Stockton going one up.

Man-of-the-Match Jack Allerton began to distribute the ball well, leading to a number of short corners that York could not capitalise on.

However, York’s pressure finally paid off with Pete Fitton making up for getting his captain a green card by making it one apiece at half time.

York were slow starters in the second-half, with Stockton putting a high press on York’s defence.

Despite an impressive goalline clearance from Charlie Borwell, Stockton were able to score a second goal on the break and capitalise on some confusion over an umpire’s call with a third from a short corner.

York improved towards the end of the game, pressurising Stockton’s defence but it was too little too late.

A consolation goal from James Fitton made the last few minutes interesting but ultimately Stockton came away with the three points.
