NO York City fans will be allowed to attend the Minstermen's first match of the new season on Saturday away to Warrington Rylands.

It was hoped that a small number of York supporters would be able to attend Rylands' 1,345-capacity Gorsley Lane home ground, given that Government Covid-19 restrictions allow a limited number of spectators into grounds below Step 2.

However, the FA have stated that, after more talks with the Government, only home fans will be able to attend in matches where 'Non-Elite' clubs host an 'Elite' club, as is the case for York's trip to Warrington in the second round qualifying of the FA Cup.

A Twitter post by City's fellow Vanarama National League North club Kidderminster Harries confirmed the news, saying "The FA have confirmed that, following their latest discussions with the Government, only home fans can be admitted to FA Cup ties where a 'Non-Elite' Club hosts an 'Elite' club.

According to FA guidance, "both clubs shall ensure that spectators of the visiting club are in attendance at the match."

It is also understood that there will be no fans at all in FA Cup ties where an 'Elite' club hosts either a fellow 'Elite' club or a 'Non-Elite' club.

Where a 'Non-Elite' club plays another 'Non-Elite' club, both home and away supporters will be allowed to attend.

The FA have said that they will review their position again before the third round qualifying stage, ties of which are to be played on Tuesday, October 13.

The cup tie will be York's first match of the 2020/21 season, before their National League North campaign is set to get underway against Chorley at Bootham Crescent next Tuesday evening.
