YORK City’s pre-season trip to Notts County will not only serve as game preparation for the Minstermen but also matchday logistics practice, Micky Cummins has confirmed.

National League outfit County are set to host York on Saturday, September 26 (3pm) ahead of City’s return to competitive action in early October.

The trip to Meadow Lane has been earmarked as the first time in pre-season York will travel together on the team bus. Thus far, players have arrived separately under their own steam at South Shields and Whitby Town.

Since the Whitby defeat, three midfielders in Akil Wright, Owen Gamble and Alex Wollerton have since arrived.

On the upcoming trip to Nottingham, Cummins said: “We’ll use that as a practice run so it will be the first time we’re using the team bus.

“It will be a proper matchday experience for us. It’s something that we’re looking forward to.

“We’ve got a couple of games between now and then, try and look at the personnel we’ve got, new lads that will come in.

“There’s still time to go. Our plan is in place.”

This Saturday’s match at Meadow Lane will also see 1,000 home spectators allowed in at Meadow Lane with the match selected as a test event to pilot the safe return of fans to games.

Cummins also paid tribute to centre-back Sean Newton, who recently won the Billy Fenton Clubman of the Year award for the third time, equalling fellow defender Daniel Parslow’s record.

“I think he’s been one of the consistent performers from our time here,” Cummins said. “He’s responded well to when we came in and he’s taken on his responsibility in the team really well.

“He’s just a very good footballer.”
