YORK City Academy have progressed into the next stage of the FA Youth Cup after defeating Tadcaster Albion 4-1 at the Global Stadium.

Just after the half-hour mark, Tadcaster went ahead, with Ben Calam assisting Troy Greening to open the scoring.

It looked as if the Brewers would take that lead into the half-time break but Luke Jones struck for York with just two minutes remaining in the half to level the scores heading into the second period.

On the hour mark, Blake Drury put the Minstermen in front for the first time and late goals from Jonny Haase, on 82 minutes, and Brandon Finn, on 89 minutes, capped the victory for City.

The win sees York progress into the first qualifying round of the competition with an away tie at Cleethorpes Town next up on the week commencing Monday, September 21.

Before that, York’s Under-19s begin their season in their first match of the 2020/21 National League Football Academy North season on Wednesday when they host Stockport County at the club’s Wigginton Road training ground.

At present, the game will take place behind closed doors with no access to the public.
