MATTY MARSH has described his decision to sign a new deal with York City Knights as an easy one, saying “there is nowhere I’d rather be than playing for this team."

Marsh is one of three players to have signed new deals with the club for the 2021 season, with Will Jubb and Chris Clarkson also already committing their futures to the Knights.

The full-back had a stand-out season in 2019, finishing as York's top try-scorer and their Player of the Season, and had scored six times in as many matches when the season was cancelled amid the pandemic.

“It was an easy decision for me to sign again for next season," Marsh told York's club website.

"I think the direction the club is heading in is really exciting and I’m honoured to be part of it.”

“I’m really enjoying the full-back role.

"I’ve still got loads to learn and I’m not at the standard that I personally want to be at but I know I’m in the right hands to get me there.

“I do feel my confidence has grown in the position but I owe a lot of that to the players in the team – they make it a lot easier for me.”

The 25-year-old was also eager to praise the club's supporters after it was revealed last week that 93 per cent of members had donated their memberships to the club.

“I think what the fans have done this year especially, in these circumstances, just shows how great they are.

“They have played a huge part in what we have done over the last couple of years and the following they bring home and away has pulled us through plenty of games!”

“I’ll always appreciate what the fans do for us but especially thankful for the support they have shown the club this year.

“Personally, there are plenty of reasons for me to stay, from the group of lads and the coaching staff to the unbelievable following we get every week from the fans.”
