YORK City will travel to Whitby Town in their second pre-season friendly on Saturday, September 12 (1pm).

The game will be York’s second warm-up match before the new season begins on October 3.

Preceding that for the Minstermen is a trip to South Shields of the Northern Premier League premier division taking place on Tuesday evening (7.30pm).

Ticket details for the game at Whitby's Towbar Express Stadium are still to be confirmed by the home club.

Whitby were seventh in the Northern Premier League premier division table when the 2019/20 season was suspended and later cancelled amid the coronavirus pandemic, sitting three points adrift of the play-offs with three games in hand on fifth-placed Lancaster City.

The two sides last met in January in the North Riding County FA Senior Cup, with York progressing from the quarter-final tie.

Goals from Josh King and Dan Maguire put York 2-0 up at half-time but Whitby rallied to level the scores at 2-2 after extra time and to take the game to a penalty shootout.

City ultimately come out on top in that 4-3, with King, Will Jackson, Reiss Harrison and Dom Jackson all scoring from the spot after Tom Allan missed the opener.
