YORK Acorn have retired their number 17 shirt in memory of Jenson Okhovat, who died earlier this month.

Okhovat passed away at the age of 28, having played for Dewsbury Rams and Drighlington ARLFC, Hunslet Warriors as well as York Acorn, most recently.

Acorn have since set up a fundraiser which has raised almost £3,500.

"As a club we are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our own, Jenson Okhovat", said a York Acorn statement.

"Jenson was part of the York Acorn family for a few years and in what may seem like a short space of time, Jenson made a huge impression both on and off the pitch.

"With a heart of a lion, his selflessness, his fun personality and such a beautiful smile, Jenson was love by so many and formed friends for life, who love him wholeheartedly.

"The truth is he will be unbelievable missed and this tragic news has seen the club pull together to support one anther and reach out to his family, during a time that is incomprehensible.

"Everyone knows that Jenson's little girl is the apple of his eye. York Acorn have set up a Go Fund Me page to raise funds to send his little girl's with Jenson's family on a trip that she will never forget. As a club we have donated £650 towards a trip of a life time.

"If you can offer your support (to) our club, its members and the extended community will be extremely appreciative.

"In Jenson's honour, the No. 17 has been retired and withdrawn from the Open Age team; Jenson's shirt will be displayed in the club.

"Our deepest condolences are with Jenson's family and friends. Please know that as a club, as his friends, our doors are always open and you're always welcome."
