GEORGE DAVEY has said that he should know in the “next few days” whether or not he will return to action on promoter Frank Warren’s next bunch of scheduled shows.

Warren’s Queensbury Promotions announced last week that they will run three shows over the next couple of months, with those taking place on September 12, September 26 and October 10.

The fighters competing on the cards have yet to be revealed, though York super-welterweight prospect Davey says he’s hoping to be part of any of the three events.

“100 per cent, I’d love to be on one of those shows,” said Davey.

“Fingers crossed we know soon. Frank Warren has said that he will let Henry know in the next few days which show we’re on, because we’re pencilled in to be one of them.

“I’m not too bothered about when it is, just so long as I have got a date to train to.

“At the minute, you’re training but you don’t know what you’re training for.”

Given that only Warren, Eddie Hearn and management giant MTK Global are currently running shows, Davey admits it would be an honour to be one of the few fighters able to box during this turbulent period.

He added: “It’s exciting to be one of the few boxers to be fighting during the coronavirus pandemic. It’s quite a privilege.”

Davey has been in training with trainer and York boxing legend Henry Gym at his gym in Acomb since permitted to do so.

With no confirmed fight date yet given to him, he’s having to find the balance between training hard and burnout from over-training.

The 22-year-old continued: “You always want to be in the gym and want to get better.

“But then again, it’s so easy to burn yourself out so you don’t want to go too hard either before you’re given your fight date because then you’ll then have nothing left.”
