IN the latest round of pre-season friendlies, Brighouse Sports and Farsley Junior ladies were the biggest winners.

Sports were behind after an early Lower Hopton goal, but came back to win 4-2, with a hat-trick from skipper Leanne Smith and a very fine-angled shot from Alice Holleworth.

Their next opponents Bradford (Park Avenue) suffered a huge 10-0 defeat at a well-organised Brighouse Town Development.

Bradford's keeper Annie Roberts pulled off a string of outstanding saves, denying any Town attacks for the first 20 minutes, until some excellent play by Brighouse led to Ariane Parnham's first strike in her hat-trick.

There were also goals from new signing Katja May, Cara Mahoney and a well-deserved debut goal from Ella Mortimer, with Lucie Fieldhouse finishing off the game with four.

Brighouse Town's first team were also in action, as they hosted Northern Premier Division side Middlesbrough.

After a goal-less first half, Town nearly broke the dead-lock with Emma Dobson's 30-yard strike but it was stopped by a superb save.

A five-minute spell near the end produced three goals for the visitors without reply.

Thackley were three goals down at half-time in their hastily-arranged game at home to Morley Town. Megan Butterworth pulled one back, but it ended up being a 4-1 defeat to the new West Riding First Division team.

Finally, Farsley Celtic Juniors won 3-0 at Hepworth United.

Farsley Celtic have announced friendlies at home to Old Centralians this Sunday, and Golcar on September 1. Visits to Thackley (August 23) and Bradford City Women (August 27) are also on the agenda.
