Watford have not offered Callum Whelan a new contract after his previous one expired earlier this year, the Watford Observer understands.

The young midfielder made his first-team debut this season in the FA Cup against Tranmere Rovers after joining on a free transfer from Manchester United in the summer.

Whelan spent a lot of time with the first-team throughout last season and regularly travelled to away matches to gain more experience while also playing for the Under 23s.

The 21-year-old had hoped a new contract offer would be forthcoming after he signed an extension to stay with the club until the end of the season, but he has since been told that he is free to look for another club.
