FORMER York City midfielder Adriano Moke has joined fellow National League North promotion rivals Spennymoor Town.

Moke was one of the 13 players not to be offered new deals by York as manager Steve Watson rebuilds his side having missed out on promotion to the National League during the play-offs less than a fortnight ago.

The Portuguese playmaker was part of the York side which won promotion to the National League and the FA Trophy in the 2011/12 season before moving to Cambridge United.

After spells at Tamworth, Macclesfield Town, Wrexham and Boreham Wood, Moke returned to York in November 2016. The 30-year-old played 38 times for the Minstermen in all competitions last season.

“I was at York for six years and I feel like a new challenge will be good for me,” Moke told the club’s website. “That’s history now.”

Spennymoor were sixth in the National League North table when the season was suspended amid the coronavirus pandemic back in March.

The league’s points-per-game verdict meant that the Moors missed out on a play-offs spot, with Chester and Gateshead leapfrogging them to a top seven place.
