YORK City's Peter Jameson and Sean Newton have been named in the National League North's Team of the Season for the 2019/20 campaign.

Both Jameson and Newton played crucial parts in the York side which were top of the North division table when the season was suspended amid the coronavirus pandemic.

After 34 regular league games, prior to lockdown, the Minstermen had conceded just 28 goals in 34 matches, with only Brackley Town letting in fewer.

That was due, in no small part, to the form of Jameson and Newton.

Goalkeeper Jameson, in his debut season for the club having joined from Blyth Spartans in the summer, kept 16 clean sheets from his 38 appearances.

Centre-back Newton meanwhile played every minute of York's 40 matches in the 2019/20 campaign during which time City kept 17 clean sheets and scored five goals.

Joining Newton in the Team of the Season back four are Brackley's Gareth Dean and full-backs Joel Taylor of Chester and Shaun Densmore from Altrincham.

The three-man midfield is made up of Altrincham star Josh Hancock, Southport's David Morgan and Chris Henderson of champions King's Lynn Town.

King's Lynn's Adam Marriott, the division's top-scorer with 28 goals, leads the front three alongside 20-goal Brackley striker Lee Ndlovu and Spennymoor's Glen Taylor.

Elsewhere, York City's play-off conquerors Altrincham secured promotion to the National League after defeating Boston United 1-0 at York Street in the final.

Midfielder Dan Mooney scored the only goal of the game on 64 minutes.

Meanwhile, ex-York striker Dan Maguire has joined Darlington. Maguire was one of 13 players released by York earlier this week.
