YORK City Knights have until the end of the month to confirm their participation in the Coral Challenge Cup after the competition announced its return.

The cup competition had completed its fifth round stage when rugby league action was suspended in mid-March amid the coronavirus pandemic, with York defeating Rochdale Hornets 70-12 to set up a sixth round home tie against Betfred Super League giants Castleford Tigers.

The Challenge Cup will return next month, with sixth round matches to be played on August 22-23, with clubs outside Super League being given until the end of July to inform the Rugby Football League (RFL) if they wish to continue.

Super League have confirmed that they will resume matches on August 2 behind closed doors, however the Betfred Championship and Betfred League 1 have yet to reach a verdict on whether they will play again this year.

The venues for the Challenge Cup matches have still to be confirmed by the RFL.

The revised dates for the 2020 Challenge Cup are as follows: Sixth round (August 22-23), Quarter-finals (September 19-20), Semi-finals (October 3), Final (October 17).
