YORKSHIRE CCC and county cricket will return for the 2020 season on Saturday, August 1.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have given its approval for the season's start having been suspended for almost four months amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The 18 first-class counties will meet in early July to lay out the formats of the game that will be played, with a with a new fixture schedule to be published thereafter.

So far, only The Hundred has been cancelled from the 2020 calendar and it remains to be seen how much County Championship and Vitality T20 Blast will be played.

An ECB statement read: "Preparation and planning for the season across the men’s and women’s domestic game remains subject to ongoing advice from Government and medical professionals with the safety of players, staff and officials the first priority.

The ECB Board has also approved the return to training of Men’s First-Class County players on or before 1 July.

"A dedicated working group with representatives from the First-Class Counties and ECB has been formed to provide specific focus to Domestic Cricket, while COVID-19 continues to impact the game."

The ECB also say that they have made a commitment to play women's domestic cricket this year, though this "may differ from the planned rollout of the new women’s elite domestic structure.

"The women’s elite domestic structure is the equivalent of the men’s county set-up and is formed of eight regions," the governing body explained.

"Establishing a structure for a new competition during a pandemic has provided specific challenges for the women’s domestic game, most notably having the required medical personnel in place to handle stringent return-to-play protocols."

In preparation for the restart of action in the division one County Championship, Yorkshire have arranged a second two-day red-ball friendly.

Last week, the White Rose announced a Roses friendly match against Lancashire which will played on Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25 at Emerald Headingley.

The club have also confirmed a friendly the following week against Durham, which will take place on Monday, July 27 and Tuesday, July 28 - again at Emerald Headingley.

Like the Lancashire match, the game will be streamed by multiple cameras and will be available for viewing for members of both clubs.

Elsewhere, former Yorkshire all-rounder Tim Bresnan has announced that he will join Warwickshire.

Ex-England international Bresnan announced his departure from Yorkshire a fortnight ago, having debuted the county in first-class cricket back in 2003 and gone on to win back-to-back County Championships in 2014 and 2015 with his home club.

The 35-year-old moves to Warwickshire on loan until the end of this season before beginning a permanent contract that will keep him with the West Midlands club until the end of the 2022 campaign.

Bresnan will be available to feature for Warwickshire in all competitions this year, but not in matches against Yorkshire.

Warwickshire finished seventh in the County Championship division one last year, 34 points behind Yorkshire and one spot above the sole relegated side Nottinghamshire.
