SELBY Town have announced that they will shortly be opening a new sports bar, thanks to a £17,000 grant from Football Foundation.

The club have been redeveloping their old clubhouse as part of a wider ongoing refurbishment and renovation of their Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium home ground.

Selby are hopeful that the upgrade in their facilities will continue to provide a high quality experience for those within the local community.

The bar will offer a range of beers, food, pool and darts facilities, with more information to become available upon the bar’s opening.

A club spokesperson said: “We’re excited to be able to announce the new sports bar at last, it has been a big investment in terms of time and money for both us and our fantastic sponsors and we firmly believe the new bar will bring something fresh and special to the town.

“This announcement also comes on the back of completing a major part of our renovation which saw the clubhouse being fitted with a brand new roof. This was funded in part from a £17,000 grant which we were lucky enough to receive from the Football Foundation.

“These are difficult times at the moment and we have spoken before about the loss of income caused by Covid-19, but we need to continue to invest in the future of the club to help put in place the infrastructure that will ensure it is both maintainable and successful.

“Opening the new sports bar will be a major step towards this.”

Elsewhere, the club's players and coaching returned to training on Monday evening for the first time since lockdown began.

"All guidelines will be followed to keep the players and coaches safe, but it’s a positive step toward more football at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium," Selby wrote on Twitter.
