FORMER York RI RUFC general secretary Bernard Emmel has died.
Emmel served as secretary as well as playing for York RI for many years, captaining the seconds, thirds and Senators sides.
"It is my sad duty to report the passing of Bernard Emmel at the Beaumont Nursing Home, Stamford Bridge this month," said Bill Moore, the convenor of the York RI RUFC Survivors Club.
"He had been ill for some time and coronavirus is not suspected.
"Bernard played for many years with his beloved club York RI RUFC in many roles; as general secretary, vice chairman and, for countless years, he captained the second team, the third team and the Senators team.
"Those of you who watched him play will remember him as a rock hard prop forward who always led from the front.
"The funeral is on Wednesday, May 11 in Fulford.
"As most of us are in lockdown, attending is out of the question.
"But we all can remember Bernard in our own way.
"Rest in peace old friend."
