YORK City have stated that they have made a "strong case to see promotions honoured" in response to the National League cancelling the season's remaining league games.

The League confirmed this afternoon that the remaining matches across its three divisions have been cancelled after a majority of clubs from the 90 per cent of the who responded voted for such measures.

A decision has yet to be made upon how the final league standings and promotions and relegation will be settled.

Null and voiding the season, as has been done below the sixth tier, or putting in a points-per-game system, as has been done in rugby union, are said to be the most likely two options.

York, who are top of the National League north table, look as if they are pushing for the latter.

In a statement, they said: "Throughout the process, York City FC has put forward a strong case to see promotions honoured and will continue to do so until a decision is made.

"Ending the campaign sitting at the top of the league and having endeavoured to play as many games as possible during the season, when it comes to voting on the sporting outcomes of the 2019/2020 league results, we are confident that the league and other clubs will take this key aspect into account.

"Thanks to our fans for their continued support.

"We will share further information when we receive it.

"Until then, stay safe and look after each other."
