YORK City Knights are hosting a live-tweeted virtual match against Featherstone Rovers on Sunday.

Fans can also donate to the club through the virtual matchday experience on their online store.

Fev were the scheduled visitors to Bootham Crescent in the Betfred Championship before RFL competitions were suspended in response to coronavirus.

But the two will meet on the web in what has been dubbed the ‘Chris Spurr Cup’, named after the Knights assistant coach, who also played for Featherstone.

A club spokesman added: “The Knights have named a strong line-up to face the three-time Challenge Cup winners, as head coach James Ford rolls back the years by naming himself at centre, and former fan-favourite Ben Cockayne on the bench.

“Two-time Yorkshire Cup winners Featherstone have unsurprisingly decided to name a strong team in their quest for virtual Chris Spurr Cup glory. Percy the Pit Pony captains the team from loose forward, and in an unexpected twist, Rovers have also selected Dane Chisholm in both half-back positions and as referee.

“The virtual game will kick off at 3pm on Sunday, March 22.”
