YORK City Knights Ladies rounded off their pre-season campaign with an emphatic 56-0 victory over South Leeds Spartans.

Ellie Hendry was the star of the show with a personal haul of 20 points, having scored two tries and slotting over six goals.

Speedster Nat Carr returned to the side with a hat-trick of tries, with further efforts coming from Sophie Wilson, Katie Langan, Beth Lockwood, Bettie Lambert, Abbie Hallas and Ashleigh Hyde.

Points machine Hendry commented: “I am proud of our performance, more so with how the girls came together for this game.

“The past couple of weeks have been difficult for us.

"It has been a challenge to find that ‘bond’ that we have as a team.

“But this game here is exactly what we needed, it helped us rediscover our fine form and we hope now to kick on.”

Returning to the team was hat-trick hero Carr.

Though she was absent from the side that fell to Castleford in the previous outing, Carr spoke of her enjoyment to be back amongst her team mates.

Carr said: “I loved our response today after the Castleford game.

"Unfortunately, I did not get to play in that one due to work commitments but from listening and witnessing the improvements from that match is great to see.

“The girls have worked very hard and I am proud to be amongst them.

“There is a lovely bond between the girls here.

"I have been at the club for nearly three seasons now and everybody gets on with each other.

“Whether anyone is having a bad time, we are always there for each other, sticking up for one or another and make sure everyone at this club is always happy.”

Another on show was unsung hero Mary Tiplady.

Tiplady was the architect in more than one of the tries for the Knights in their huge win.

Though happy with the result and aware that there’s room for improvement, she remains excited by what the upcoming season will bring.

“I am so happy after that result. I think it was the boost the girls needed for their morale," said Tiplady.

“The hard work we have been putting in pre-season training is all coming together as it showed from such a big win.

“Last time out was tough.

"We know Castleford are a big team, full of experience, but I think today really showed that we have plenty of skill ourselves.

“We did the basics right today, produced some fantastic attacking plays and even kept our defence intact which is great to see.

“Compared to when I first started playing over a decade ago, the support for Women’s Super League now is phenomenal and when we kick things off against Huddersfield, it will only continue to increase!”
