YORK City’s match against Altrincham scheduled for this afternoon has been postponed, with members of both teams showing potential symptoms of the Coronavirus.

Despite several matches across the National League and National Leagues North and South set to go ahead, a joint decision was made by York and Altrincham to call off the game at Bootham Crescent.

A statement on the York City website posted late last night read: “York City and Altrincham have taken the joint decision to postpone their National League North fixture scheduled for tomorrow.

“This is due to employees of both teams recently self-isolating after showing potential symptoms of the COVID-19 virus.

“Considering the circumstances and with the health of players, fans, volunteers and staff in mind, we would ask that anyone showing flu like symptoms please stay at home and seek guidance from the NHS 111 service during this time.”

Yesterday afternoon, the National League had stated that matches in its three divisions would proceed as planned.

This was in spite of matches in the Premier League, the Football League and the Women’s Super League, amongst others, being postponed by the FA until Friday, April 3, at the earliest.
