YORK City Knights have confirmed the signing of Huddersfield Giants hooker Reiss Butterworth on a one-month loan deal.

Butterworth has played three times for the Huddersfield Reserves side this season after joining the Giants on a three-year contract from Bradford Bulls in 2018.

The 21-year-old is yet to make his debut in Betfred Super League but has previous experience in the Championship.

He made 14 appearances for Batley Bulldogs in the second tier last season, where he also had a loan spell in the 2018 season.

Richard Thewlis, Huddersfield Giants managing director said: “Reiss has been looking for first-team opportunities and the situation has arisen for York to provide him with some quality Championship game time.

“Reiss is a big talent, and the opportunity to test himself in a competitive Championship with York will be good for his development and be a step up from reserve grade in a side that all expect at the end of the year to be challenging for promotion.

“Playing against men, and bigger bodies is going to be key in my development.

“Hopefully I can use this chance to gain valuable experience going forward and I’m grateful to York for this opportunity”

Knights head coach James Ford said: “Reiss is a talented young player coming through an excellent system.

“He has plenty of strengths which will have a positive impact on our play.

“Reiss has an excellent attitude and we’re excited help him continue to develop.”
