NEW Earswick IBC Eagles lost 103-50 to Leeds 'B' in the Yorkshire Over-55s League.

At home, John Palfrey, Dave Sykes, John Raw and Gary Stockton lost 30-12 against T. McAllaster, D. Howard, M. Smith and M. Hargrave.

The Earswick rink were only four shots down after nine ends but dropped two fives at the next four ends to go 20-8 behind before losing 30-12.

Keith Pearson, Barry Harrison, Ken Harrison and Rob Dunhill went down 22-12 against M. Walton, F. Tatterton and R. Gowan.

Dunhill's rink started with five singles to lead 5-1 after six ends but Leeds hit back to take a 7-6 advantage after 11 ends, then fought back again after the home rink replied with a five at the 12th end to lead 11-7.

At Leeds, Dave Toms, Stuart Scaife, Malcolm Reeson and Nigel Steels had a very even start to their 25-13 defeat against K. Collins, G. Jeffries, M. Potter and P, Linley.

The scores were tied at 5-5, 6-6, 8-8 and 10-10 but after the 12th end, the Leeds team ran away with it and Earswick only picked up three more singles.

Terry McGlennon, Pete Lee, Bruce Dobson and Graham Bell lost 26-14 to K. Stockhill, M. Bartlett, R. Coben and P. Holleran.

The away side were only 9-6 down after six ends despite dropping a five at the first end but then only scored two singles at the next 10 ends before dropping another five and a four.

The quarter-finals of the Yorkshire County Double Rinks Competition were held at New Earswick on Saturday.

The results were: Leeds 'A' 22 Doncaster 'A' 23; Leeds ‘B’ 20 Doncaster ‘B’ 12 - Leeds 42-Doncaster 35.

York ‘A’ 25 Selby ‘A’ 8; York ‘B’ 18 Selby ‘B’ 12 - York 43 Selby 20.

Leeds, Harrogate, York, and New Earswick go through to a round-robins finals day at New Earswick on Saturday March, 21.

York IBC beat Selby 43-20 to move into the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Double Rinks competition.

Alan Vowles, Mick Cooney, Jeff Normanton and John Whiteley led from start to finish and only dropped six ends as they won comfortably 25-8.

Phil Parsons, Graham Brooke, Jo Mann and Malcolm Lewars went from 11-9 to lead 18-9 before finishing 18-12.

York are joined in the semi-finals by Harrogate, Leeds and New Earswick.

York Vikings lost their second game on the trot and ended all hopes of defending the Challenge Trophy, which they won last season, when they lost 85-77 to their rivals North Cave White.

The away leg was played first and saw the Vikings losing by 24 shots on aggregate.

Ken Griffiths, Alan Hampshire, Graham Brooke and John Whiteley won 10 ends in their game but lost 23-12.

John Jennison, Gordon Fennell, Dave Dale and Mal Bulmer won 11 out of the 21 ends played but went down 28-15.

The home rinks got to within four of the deficit but then fell away at the finish.

Dave Cowsill, Mick Cooney, Phil Parsons and Jeff Normanton had an 11-8 advantage after eleven ends and only lost two more finishing with a well-deserved 27-12 victory.

Alan Vowles, Trevor Wilford, Malcolm Lewars and Tony Horobin led 22-15 with three ends to play but dropped a five on their last end and drew 22-22.

Tomorrow, both York Knights and York Romans play their last games of the season with the Knights facing Doncaster and the Romans playing New Earswick Falcons.

York 'D' nearly caused an upset as they were tied at 54-54 with six ends to play against Doncaster 'B' in Yorkshire League division three before they fell short and lost 78-66.

At home, Andy Lockwood, Bill Carter, Dave Holder and Steve Lea trailed 11-7 after seven ends before winning five successive ends to take a 15-11 lead.

They did not look back from there as they finished winning 24-17.

Gavin Dickinson, Dave Snarr, Vic Woolley and Alan Yoward led 18-8 with nine ends to play but had to rely on a single on the last end to give themselves a 20-20 draw.

In Doncaster, Alan Potter, John Hughes, Ian Mackland and John Sandle were tied at 11-11 after 15 ends but lost 20-12.

John Munday, Rod Knight, John Walton and Colin Robinson were tied at 6-6 with nine ends gone but fell away and lost 21-10.

On Saturday, York 'A' play North Cave. In division two, York 'B' face Hornsea 'B' and in division three' York 'C' play Leeds 'B'.

York ladies play Harrogate in the Yorkshire League.

All four games start at noon.
