NEW Earswick Indoor Bowls Club 'A' team enjoyed an 83-71 win over North Yorkshire rivals Harrogate in Yorkshire League division one.

At home, John Harrison, Bill Nuckey, Mick Head and Bill Waldie allowed their opponents just two singles in the first 13 on their way to a 27-5 victory.

Steve Connolly, Allister Domville, Colin Ellis and Colin Pickup were always just behind in their game. After eight ends they trailed 8-4 but that was stretched to a final score of 23-13 to Harrogate.

At Harrogate, Dave Furness, Bob Elliot, Gary Jones and Paul Dawson lost just 24-20.

Andrew Fothergill, Paul Murray, Kevin Liddell and Rob Domville shot out of the blocks, leading 17-0 after seven ends but Harrogate battled back to only go down 23-19.

New Earswick 'B' picked up nine points in their 78-78 division two draw with Leeds 'B' after winning three of the four rinks.

At home, Steve Hudson, Alwyn Anderson, Gary Stockton and Bob Barrett hung on for a 19-16 win.

With consecutive fours at the 11th and 12th ends, Joe Barker, Dave Crane, Graham Lockwood and Dick Osguthorpe came back from 9-0 down after five ends to win 23-20.

At Leeds, Dave Counter, Brian Hutton, Alan Shearer and Eric Cookson won a high-scoring encounter 25-22.

Gordon Fratson, Brian Birch, Rod Walker and Barry Johnson lost 22-11.

New Earswick 'C' lost 99-60 to Harrogate.

At home, Chris Evans, Matt Brown, Micky Warriner and Andy Nicholson drew 18-18 while Stuart Moore, Paul Webster, Pete Waddington and Rob Dunhill lost 21-20.

In Harrogate, Dave Toms, Stuart Scaife, M. Reeson and Nigel Steels lost 33-10 while Brian Harton, Dave Turner, Pete Lee and Barrie Shipley lost 27-12.

New Earswick Ladies lost 73-56 to North Cave in the North East League.

At home Leslie Nuckey, Moira Ellis, Diane Hardy and Sally Domville slipped to a 27-9 defeat while Ann Lea, Sue Adams, Muriel Tomlinson and Irene Warrington won 22-8.

At Cave, Rebbeca Connolly, Veronica Connolly, Jennie Philpott and Kath Sykes matched the hosts shot for shot until the final three ends and lost 18-13.

Carole Thompson, Christine Pickup, Jackie Toms and Norma Davies lost 20-12.

York IBC's title chances are now very slim after losing to Selby 73-72 in Yorkshire League division one - despite two winning rinks and one drawing.

At home, Harley Wenham, Jack Woodworth, John Crowe and Dave Stroughair finished well as they came from 14-8 down to win 19-18.

Alan Vowles, Mick Cooney, Mark Clarke and Tony Horobin led 8-7 but six ends later trailed on their way to a 19-13 defeat.

In Selby, Nathan Richards, Jo Mann, Kieran Earnshaw and Jack Bird came from 7-0 down to secure a 20-20 draw.

In division two, York 'B' lost 72-71 to third-placed Leeds.

The only winning rink came in Leeds from Ken Simpson, Pete Riley, Gordon Fennell and Mal Bulmer who came from 15-13 down with five ends to play to win 24-16.

John Jennison, Allen Clapham, Jim Robertson and Graham Instone lost 20-18.

At home, Billy Flavell, Alan Hampshire, David White and Pete Bradley lost 18-14 while Ken Griffiths, Malcolm Harrison, Geoff Walker and Dave Dale lost 18-15.

In division three, York 'C' boosted their chances of qualifying for the Hebden Challenge Cup with a 96-70 win over second-placed Selby 'B', picking up 12 points.

At home, Alan Braithwaite, Barry Walker, Dave Clough and Dave Clarke won 31-18 while Eric Hodgson, Ken Robinson, Mal Rankeillor and Mike Snowden clawed back to only lose 21-15.

In Selby, Pete Waring, Dennis Walls, Norman Ellis and Trevor Scott won 29-16 while Alan Potter, Ian Mackland, Noel Mallen and Dave Berwick came away with a well-deserved 21-15 victory.

On Saturday (10am), York 'D' play New Earswick 'B'.

York Ladies lost 79-62 to Scarborough with only one winning rink.

Pat Berwick, Bar Saville, Maggie Pallister and Pat Potter scored two sixes in a comfortable 32-11 win while Jen Brown, Bernadette Johnson, Monika Morgan and Pauline Cooper lost 24-8.

Away, Eva Snarr, Dee Robinson, Margaret Sadler and Barbara Dawson lost 18-13 and Denise Elliott, Ann Donaldson, Tina Robinson and Kath Pepper lost 26-9.

York Knights let victory slip away once again as they lost 82-76 to Leeds in Yorkshire Over-55s League division one.

Away, Allen Clapham, Dave Preece, Jim Robertson and Graham Instone won 22-17 and Alan Braithwaite, Dave Clough, David White and Pete Bradley won 18-17.

At home, Pete Waring, Vic Woolley, Barry Walker and Geoff Walker led 11-7 but lost 24-14 and Colin Robinson, Eric Hodgson, Dave Berwick and Steve Lea were 14-11 in front but lost 24-22.

Tomorrow (noon) York Vikings hope to go second as they complete their game against Harrogate.

Next Tuesday, York IBC host the Midlands Counties game between Durham and Nottinghamshire (12.30pm).
