YORK City have made it through to the North Riding County FA Senior Cup semi-finals after beating Whitby Town on penalties.

The Minstermen were two goals up at half-time at the Turnbull Ground but the Seasiders fought back and forced the spot kicks.

Centre-back Josh King and returning striker Dan Maguire, pictured, scored for the visitors going into the break. Paul Blackett pulled one back with 25 minutes to go and Kieran Weledji equalised with seconds left on the clock.

Keeper Ryan Whitley made two saves in the shoot-out, and youngsters Will Jackson and Dom Jackson sent York through.

It took King just nine minutes to get his name on the scoresheet. A corner was headed out as far as Will Jackson, who fired back in and King steered it in.

Maguire doubled the Minster-men's advantage just before the break. Receiving the ball in the area, he turned and lobbed keeper Shane Bland.

The penalties started poorly for York, whose centre-back Tom Allan hit the crossbar while Blackett netted for Whitby, but things soon turned around.
