NEW Earswick’s poor form in the Yorkshire League continued in their first game in the New Year against Hornsea, as they suffered a 118-49 defeat.

At home, John Harrison, Dave Furness, Bill Waldie and Mick Head only scored two singles in the first sixteen ends to trail 2-30, though they went on to score two’s at the last two end but went down 7-32.

Rob Domville, Dave Clayden, Andrew Fothergill and Kevin Lidell fought back from 3-9 down after seven ends, but they to lead 13-9 three ends later.

New Earswick then only scored one more single at the next 10 ends before scoring two at the last to go down 16-31.

Over at Hornsea, Dave Imeson, Paul Murray, Ralph Tiplady and Colin Pickup were only four shots behind at 3-7 after six ends though they would go on to lose their next eleven ends to go

3-29.

The visitors won three of the last four ends but dropped another three at the last to fall to a 7-32 defeat.

In the closest rink of the match, Joe Barker, Bob Elliot, Gary Jones and Paul Dawson fought back from 1-6 down after four ends to lead 9-8 after 10 ends.

The rinks then matched each other and were tied at 13-13 after 15 ends.

Hornsea went on to win the next three ends to lead 13-19, only for Earswick to score a six at the 19th to level the scores at 19-19.

But Hornsea took the last two ends to win 19-23.

That left the final score as New Earswick 49-118 Hornsea, meaning that the former took no points while the latter claimed 14.
