STUDENTS at a jujitsu club in York ended their year on a high after passing their first gradings.

Three Wu Lay Col jujitsu club pupils, Thomas Pugh, Jack Hai and Robert Weeks, all successfully passed their grading at their first attempt.

"All three lads should be really proud of themselves, as I am of them," said Haley Pugh, who runs the club.

"They’ve all worked really hard and put in a tremendous effort."

For the youngsters, the club runs every Monday night from 6.30pm at St Olave’s church hall near Marygate carpark.

It is run by Sensei Haley Pugh, with the help of Sensei Robert Crawford and Sensei Will Scott. It was set up earlier in the year as a legacy of Haley’s late partner Colin, who is a fifth dan in jujitsu, but passed away in 2018.

The club says new students are always welcome.

Children’s classes (from age five to 16) are held from 6.30pm to 7.30pm and adult classes run from 7.45pm to 9pm.

Anyone interested can either email wulaycol@gmail.com for further information or just turn up on a Monday night.
