ACOMB Hockey Club Men I earned a draw in a 10-goal thriller at home to Airedale.

The eighth-placed Tangerines drew first blood in the in the Yorkshire League division one clash before their ninth-placed visitors went ahead in a to-and-fro encounter.

Jonny Brown opened the scoring for Acomb without Airedale having touched the ball, and a neat finish from Dave Richardson 10 minutes later made it two.

Airedale's centre-forward turned the game on its head with a 15-minute hat-trick but Pete Greenwood levelled before the break from a penalty corner after Airedale had a man carded.

The visitors retook the lead five minutes into the second period but, again, the Tangerines levelled soon after when Matt Dickenson’s fierce strike arrowed into the goal.

With eight minutes remaining, Acomb went ahead when Greenwood netted his second, but visitors' number 12 ensured the points were shared when he struck his fourth in the final minute.

Third-placed Acomb II survived a late comeback to defeat Thirsk II 4-3 in division four north.

Acomb took an early lead at a penalty corner when shots from both John Forecast and Anthony Daley found Harry Ellis, who eventually hit the back of the net.

Thirsk responded well and levelled with a brilliant finish from their young striker but Pete Greenwood sent Acomb into the break ahead with a direct flick.

After coming out strongly for the second half, Ellis hammered home from a great cross in by Forecast.

The Tangerines found themselves tested at the back but Bob Unsworth and Andy Robinson held firm in defence until Thirsk pulled another goal back from a short corner.

The two-goal advantage was restored when Daley netted from a penalty flick before Thirsk netted a third.

Acomb Ladies got their first points of the Yorkshire Ladies League division one season in a 6-2 win at Slazengers II.

Chloe Williams netted her first hat-trick for the club, with Vicky Wrigley adding a brace and Alex Wilson contributing a single strike.
