YORK City boss Steve Watson has said the loans of Tom Allan and Wes York are for the best for player and club.

Both have been sent out to fellow National League North sides, centre-back Allan to Farsley Celtic and midfielder York to Brackley Town.

The loan periods run until early January 2020.

"It's the right thing for both parties," Watson said.

"They're not kids. They both need to be playing football every week, and they need to look beyond this season maybe.

"Tom's been great for Farsley. He's done nothing wrong for us but we have got a squad where - maybe with the exception of Macca's position - we have two very good candidates for each position.

"Harry (Spratt) and Josh King could be great back-up and could learn as they go to become first-choice centre-halves.

"When you've got Newts in what I consider his more natural position, the obvious thing to do is for Tom to go and play."
