PROMISING hooker Will Jubb has become the latest player to commit to York City Knights for 2020 after signing a one-year deal, thanks to the help of Squadbuilder.

The 14th addition to next year's Betfred Championship squad, Jubb gives head coach James Ford another option at dummy-half alongside home-grown talent Kriss Brining, as well as cover in the halves.

He made 25 appearances in 2019, scoring three tries, as the Knights shocked the Championship with their memorable third-placed finish.

Jubb previously captained the City of Hull Academy side and made a try-scoring debut for Hull KR in the 2016 Super League qualifiers.

He first joined the Knights on dual registration in 2017, featuring 16 times and scoring five tries.

He signed a permanent deal for 2018 and scored five tries in 18 appearances in the League One title-winning team, and was also a member of the England Universities team that won the Student Home Nations tournament.

Coach Ford said: “I’m delighted with Will’s progress.

"His drive to improve and maximise his potential is inspiring for us all. His skill and deception around the ruck is outstanding, and we were all pleased with his defensive intent too.

“We all really enjoy working with Will and I’m very confident we have yet to see him at his very best.

“I’d like to thank the efforts of our supporters and specifically Squadbuilder for their hard work and continuing commitment, which is enabling us to plan and build for what will hopefully be another successful season.”

Jubb added: “I’m really happy and excited to have re-signed for 2020 and I am really grateful for the opportunity to carry on playing for this great club.

"It’s a fantastic feeling to still be part of the club and the story that we are writing. The chance to play in front of the amazing fans again was something I didn’t want to pass up.

“I have really enjoyed my time at the club so far and have definitely grown as a player because of the fantastic coaching staff and the great group of lads we have got.

“I’m really looking forward to the new season ahead and will be trying my best to continue developing and help the club get to where it wants to be.”

The players signed on for 2020 are Joe Porter, Jack Teanby, Jason Bass, Connor Robinson, Kriss Brining, Matty Marsh, Perry Whiteley, Ronan Dixon, Will Jubb, Danny Washbrook, Chris Clarkson, James Green, Ben Johnston and Will Sharp.
