MATTY MARSH was named as the York City Knights Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year at the club’s awards night.

The full-back turned his loan spell at York in 2018 into a permanent move last season from Hull Kingston Rovers and it’s a decision which has paid off for both Marsh and the Knights.

Marsh played in all of York’s Betfred Championship games in the 2019 campaign and was a key part of the team which finished third in the table and reached the semi-finals of the play-offs.

The 24-year-old was the top try-scorer for the Knights last year, contributing 16 tries and six goals at full-back.

Less than a fortnight ago, York secured his signature for the 2020 season, as funded by the club’s Squadbuilder initiative.

Elsewhere at the awards night, which was held at York Racecourse last night, Marcus Stock was named as the club’s Shooting Star.

The forward played 29 times for York last year, scoring seven tries.

Honours for the club’s Ladies team were also given out during the evening.

Ashleigh Hyde won the Player of the Year gong while Katie Langan was the recipient of the Players’ Player award.

The Ladies Shooting Star award was handed to Alisha Clayton.

The success of York’s LDRL team was celebrated too and Robyn Hyde won their Player of the Year.

And, the Club Person of the Year was taken by John Thompson, thanks to his excellent work with the EXCEL Development programme.
