REIGNING champions Topspin A are eight points clear at the top of the Red Goat York & District Table Tennis League after whitewashing their B team 10-0.

York RI A are in second place after matching Topspin by thrashing Bootham A by the same scoreline.

Rich Crowther showed the way as York RI B beat their C team 7-3 whilst Aidan Ranftler was on top form as Clarence A cruised to an 8-2 victory over Coneysthorpe B.

A treble from Bryan Birbeck made the difference as Shiyi Ling A defeated their B team 6-4 although Tom Thorp played well for the losers, bagging an excellent win against Mikey Arnold.

In the division two, braces from Alberto Nidasio and Dave Quinlan were just enough to allow York RI D to edge a close battle against York RI E 6-4, for whom youngster Josh Bramley picked up two wins.

Clarence C recorded an 8-2 victory over a depleted Topspin C whilst a maximum from John Flintoft was the highlight as Ryedale A and Bootham B shared the spoils in a 5-5 draw.

Mark Hodgson retained his unbeaten record as Wigginton A beat Strensall 8-2.

Title favourites, Clarence B thrashed Shepherds B 9-1 with Graham Hatfield and Alfie Potter untroubled.

York RI F head the third division after Adam Stone and Mark Antrobus starred in a 9-1 demolition of York RI G.

Alex Gresswell picked up the consolation point for the G team with a good win over Jacob Martindale.

Three wins from Lewis Harrison proved decisive as Shiyi Ling retained their 100% record with a 6-4 win over Shepherds B and an Alex Robinson treble was key as Wigginton B edged out BT B by the same margin.

Clarence E won a tense battle with Wigginton C 6-4 with braces from Terry Nicholson and Bob Young being matched by Naz Hosseinian and Rich Bayliss for Wigginton.

In the fourth division, Wigginton D whitewashed Clarence J 10-0 and Russ Scott steered Clarence G to a 6-4 victory against Clarence I.

Horst Meyer and Nigel Baker contributed maximums as Shepherds C crushed Topspin D 9-1 for who Max Piller played well on his debut to beat the experienced David Atkinson.

Dom Horsley was on top form as York RI H secured a 5-5 draw with Wigginton E.
