NEW EARSWICK 'A' were beaten 92-64 (12-2) by local rivals York in the Yorkshire Bowls League.

At home, John Harrison, Brian Birch, Bill Waldie and Gary Jones were no match for John Jennison, Graham Brooke, Jeff Normanton and John Whitely, losing 32-10.

Dave Imeson, David Moorhouse, Dick Osgutorpe and Mick Head won six of the last eight ends including a four at the 20th for a 22-18 victory against Phil Parsons, Alan Hampshire, John Walker and Mark Clarke.

At Thanet Road, Dave Furness, Bob Elliot, Paul Murray and Paul Dawson lost 23-13 to Alan Vowles, Mick Cooney Mick Lewes and Tony Horobin.

In the closest rink of the match, Andy Humphreys, Bill Nuckey, Ralph Tiplady and Colin Pickup were edged out 19-17 by Harley Wenham, Mal Harrison, John Crowe and David Stroughair.

New Earswick 'B' beat Doncaster 88-68 (11-3) in the Yorkshire League.

Joe Barker, Dave Counter, Brian Hutton and Bob Barrett were 29-11 winners, while Nigel Steels, Dave Crane, Rod Walker and Alwyn Anderson lost 19-14.

At Doncaster, Gordon Fratson, Steve Connolly, Graham Lockwood and Colin Ellis drew 21-21 and Brian Harton, Alister Domville, Steve Hudson and Eric Cookson were 24-17 winners.

New Earswick Ladies took on Doncaster and took six points to four from a 73-54 defeat.

At home Jean Cann, Christine Pickup, Jackie Toms and Irene Warrington won 16-15, while Kaye Hutchinson, Shirley Hallgate, Diane Hardy and Norma Davies lost 29-4.

Away, Kath Sykes' rink won 19-15 and Sally Domville's won 15-14.

New Earswick Ospreys lost 84-81 (10-4) to North Cave Yellow in the Over-55s.

At home, Dave Crane, Jimmy Robinson, Pete Lee and Steve Connolly lost 18-17, while Gordon Fratson, Dave Counter, Doug Carr and Colin Ellis won 24-17.

At North Cave, Gordon Johnson, Ian Carr, Bill Nuckey and Alwyn Anderson won 29-17, and Brian Harton, Dave Toms, Barrie Shipley and Gary Stockton lost 32-11.

YORK Indoor Bowls Club's two Yorkshire League winning teams got off to winning starts.

The Ladies beat Redcar 75-57 as both away rinks won. Pat Berwick, Joan Knight, Pauline Armitage and Sheila Turpin finished with an impressive 24-9 victory, while Tina Robinson, Margaret Sadler, Kath Pepper and Carol Instone won 18-13.

At home, Denise Elliott, Maureen Walker, Sue Kirkpatrick and Melanie Brooke won 20-15, while Jen Brown, Bernadette Johnson, Betty Richardson and Pauline Cooper lost 20-13.

York's men were 92-64 winners against newly-promoted New Earswick (see above for details).

The two teams meet again on Saturday at noon in the Denny Cup.

In division two of the Yorkshire League, York 'B' were were thankful for a touch of luck to beat Doncaster 77-76, picking up 11 points.

Away, both rinks came away with victories - Ken Griffiths, Dave Cowsill, Jim Robertson and Graham Instone had a well deserved 22-15 win, and Ken Simpson, Mal Rankeillor, Dave Dale and Mal Bulmer came through 20-13.

At home, Wally Darbyshire, Ken Robinson, Eric Hodgson and Pete Bradley got a single on the last for an 18-18 draw.

Charlie Arnett, Alan Braithwaite, David White and Geoff Walker lost 30-17.

In division three, York 'D' lost 96-62 to Leeds 'B'.

Away, John Headley, Ian Mackland, Noel Mallen and Ron Munro lost 22-19, and Ray Wynn, Dave Snarr, Norman Ellis and Dave Berwick lost 23-16.

At home, Rod Knight, John Sandle, Alan Yoward and Allan May went down 23-18, Gavin Dickinson, Steve Elsey, Dennis Walls and Peter Jensen lost 28-9.

In Yorkshire Over-55s League division one, York Vikings beat newly-promoted York Knights 115-53, picking up 13 points.

Wally Darbyshire, Alan Braithwaite, Jim Robertson and Graham Instone drew 17-17 with John Jennison, Barry Walker, Graham Brooke and John Whiteley.

In the other three rinks the Vikings teams were never behind. Malcolm Harrison, Alan Hampshire, Malcolm Lewars and Tony Horobin beat Allen Clapham, Dave Clough, David White and Geoff Walker 34-10.

Ken Griffiths, Dave Cowsill, Mick Cooney and Jeff Normanton beat Ken Robinson, Dave Holder, Dave Berwick and Steve Lea 35-13, and Harley Wenham, Gordon Fennell, Dave Dale and Mal Bulmer beat Charlie Arnett, Vic Woolley, Eric Hodgson and Mike Snowden 29-13.

In division two, York Romans lost 101-58 to Scarborough.
