MATTY MARSH has become the latest player to sign up for York City Knights' 2020 Betfred Championship season thanks to the help of Squadbuilder.

The Knights have made the 24-year-old the 11th member of James Ford’s 2020 roster.

A classy operator, Marsh made an important contribution to the Knights 2018 League One-winning team in 12 dual-registered appearances, scoring 10 tries.

He then signed a permanent deal for 2019, ending as the team’s top try-scorer with 16 tries in 26 games as the Knights earned a top three finish in the Betfred Championship.

Marsh - who can play at either full-back or half-back - progressed through the ranks at Hull KR, winning accolades for the Academy Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year.

He went on to make 42 appearances for the Robins, including seven Super League appearances in 2018.

Knights head coach James Ford said: “I’m really pleased to re-sign Matty. I felt he had a good season and has plenty of development left in him. He’s still learning the details of full-back, and I was pleased by the rate of this learning.

“I genuinely believe Matty could kick on and provide us with 'X-Factor' moments at key stages in big games - as long as his attitude remains towards hard work and learning.

“I’d like to thank the efforts of our supporters, and specifically Squadbuilder for their hard work and continuing commitment, which is enabling us to plan and build for what will hopefully be another successful season.”

Marsh added: “For me, there is no better club I'd rather play for.

"To be part of this group and what we have achieved this year was outstanding and it was a easy decision to stay.

“We know we can we can improve on this year too, which is really exciting. To see the following of fans we had this year and what it meant to them was awesome and I want to stay part of that.”

Squadbuilder is a fan-led initiative which raises funds to go directly into the first-team squad, to which supporters can contribute one-off payments or monthly standing orders.
