CITY of York Hockey Club Men I suffered another heavy defeat from their second league outing this term.

After the previous week's 5-1 loss at Brooklands II, the Minster city outfit sit bottom of the North League premier division following the recent 4-1 home reversal against Oxton.

Both sides made a brisk start and after the first quarter were level at 1-1, but within minutes City lost their grip and conceded two quick goals, one of which was scored with an excellent drag flick at a penalty corner.

Up to half-time Oxton had the edge and looked worthy of their lead, but after the break City came out strongly and dominated the second half.

With increased possession, City were able to attack the Oxton 'D' but lacked the final pass to create clear-cut scoring chances.

A second goal from City could have changed the game completely but it did not come and Oxton broke out to put the result beyond City’s grasp.

City of York Ladies I remain seventh in North Women's League division one with a 1-1 draw at home to Lytham St Anne's.

The hosts started the first half fiercely, dominating play, passing patiently and earning several penalty corners.

From one such set piece, a superb hit from Heather Macdonald ended when Natasia Wiszniewska deflected the ball past the Lytham defence and the outstretched foot of their keeper.

But Lytham - who travelled with a bare 11 - came out fighting in the second half and got the chance to draw level when shot from a well-executed short-corner routine was stopped on the line by a City foot. A stroke was awarded and scored.
