YORK City Knights have secured the services of Kriss Brining for the 2020 Betfred Championship season after re-signing the hooker on a one-year deal.

A product of the Knights' scholarship programme, Scarborough-born Brining was influential last season on his return to York from Super League outfit Salford Red Devils.

The 26-year-old scored four tries in 23 appearances to help the Knights seal a memorable third-placed finish in the Betfred Championship.

Head coach James Ford said: “I’m pleased to retain Kriss, he had some important moments for us in 2019 and we’re all looking forward to getting him back to his very best.

“With a good pre-season, I’m confident we’ll see him play to the levels we all know he’s capable of on a weekly basis.”

Brining added: “It was an easy decision when you’ve got a group like we do.

“The club means a lot to me and it’s great to see the buzz around it and rugby league in York again.

“I can’t wait for next year and hopefully we can have another successful one.”

Brining initially played for five seasons with the Knights, becoming the club’s youngest-ever player when he made his York debut in 2011 against Widnes at the age of 17.

Through his first spell with the Minster city club, Brining made 86 first-team appearances, scoring 54 tries in the process - and notching 45 tries in as many games during his last two years with the club.

A move to Salford followed and, while he featured 24 times for the Super League club in his first season, he was unable to feature in 2018 due to injury problems which saw him released by the club at the end of the year and return to his roots.

Meanwhile, season tickets for 2020, memberships and tickets for the Knights Gala Dinner at York Racecourse on Saturday, October 19 are all available now. Tickets can be booked by emailing Zillah Ingledew at z.ingledew@yorkcityknights.com, or phone 01904 876850 for further details.
