ADRIANO MOKE has revealed his own personal ambitions for the season and hopes they can be a part of a promotion-winning term with York City.

Moke has been a regular in the centre of midfield for York this season, helping the club to an unbeaten run of 11 games which puts City at the top of the National League North table.

For the 29-year-old, the individual ambition is to establish the York midfield as the best in the division alongside fellow team-mates Andy Bond, Paddy McLaughlin and Kieran Green.

The Minstermen face arguably the toughest test of their campaign to date tomorrow though when they host third-placed King's Lynn who have just a point less than them.

It's a test of both Moke's personal assertion and York's overall aim of promotion to the National League.

“There’s obviously going to be competition for places at this club because we’ve got some really good players here," said Moke.

"We’ve got Greeny, Paddy and Bondy, in my position. It’s good to able to compete against those type of players.

"If you do get into the team, it shows that you’re doing your job and doing it well.

"I said to one of my friends earlier and this is without wanting to sound arrogant, ‘we want to be the best midfielders in the league’. That’s not just myself, it’s Greeny, Paddy and Bondy as well.

"If we can do that, then hopefully the reward can be to get promotion. Then there’s also the personal reward of being able to say that we were the best midfielders in the league for that season.

"That’s the way that I see it. I think that we’ve already got the best midfielders in the league. It’s about showing people that during games.

Like at any top club, competition for places are tightly contested, though Moke was keen to stress that it's very much a team environment at the club.

"Obviously we’re competing against one another, but we’re also a team as well, we’re not a group of individuals," he added.

"If I don’t play then I’m sure one of the other lads will do a good job and I’m sure that we’ll all support each other whether we’re in the starting 11 or not."

If pre-season games are to be included, York are unbeaten in their last 18 games.

In competitive matches from both this season and last, City haven't lost any of their last 14, winning ten and drawing four.

“There’s a lot of confidence around the group at the moment. Everyone’s working hard in training and we don’t want our standards to drop.

"There are going to be games where we don’t play the best football. But, we’re going into games now with the mentality being, we’re not going to lose.

"That’s our thought process going into every game. Hopefully we can get a reward from that.

“The King's Lynn game is massive, the boys have prepared well. We’ve had a good season so far, but we just want to take things one step at a time.

"King’s Lynn have been doing well too, so we know that it’s not going to be an easy game, but we’re looking forward to it. We’re ready to battle and see what happens.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season. Credit to the rest of the boys, Micky and the gaffer for that.

"The start that we’ve made has been good but we don’t want to get too carried away with ourselves. It’s a long season."
